Katsuyuki Nishijima Woodcut Description
This original print by Japanese artist Katsuyuki Nishijima (born 1945) is a woodcut of a street scene in Tatsumibashi, Gion, Kyoto.
It is signed and numbered 360/500 in pencil along the lower margin. It is unframed and printed on somewhat heavy Japanese handmade paper with no watermarks.
Katsuyuki Nishijima and the Sōsaku-hanga Period
This print is from the Sōsaku-hanga or creative prints movement when artists had to participate in every aspect of production. This was a revolutionary art movement that emerged in 20th century Japan post WWII.
