Rembrandt | Black and White Etching | The Three Trees Re-strike

Rembrandt | Black and White Etching | The Three Trees Re-strike

Rembrandt Etching Description

This original print is a black and white etching restrike of the largely worn out original plate by the famous Dutch artist Rembrandt (1606-1669).  It is titled The Three Trees.

It is noted in pencil along the bottom margin "Hand printed by Theo Beerendonk" (Dutch, 1905-1979).  Beerendonk was an artist and printmaker who was appointed the curator of the Rembrandt House Museum in Amsterdam in 1966.  It is printed on thick handmade paper with wire lines and a well-defined platemark.

Rembrandt Catalogue Raisonné Reference

Bartsch 212.  We understand the Beerendonk restrikes date from 1960.

One can at least describe this as a (mostly) real Rembrandt etching.

For reference here is a documentary created by and at the Rembrandt House Museum in Amsterdam. At around the 1:53 second mark the Three Trees plate and print can be seen.
