René Carcan Abstract Colour Aquatint Etching
This original print by Belgian artist René Carcan (1925-1993) is hand signed and numbered 128/135. The artwork is an unframed abstract colour aquatint etching and titled Le Vent dans la Plaine (The wind in the plain) in pencil in the lower margin.
René Carcan and the Interpretation of Nature
In the early 1960's he worked in the Parisian studio of Johnny Friedlaender, who taught him the techniques of colour etching. In the late 1960’s, he bought a small farmhouse in the Flemish countryside. Here he focused on a new symbolic interpretation of nature in his printmaking depicting the sun, trees, sunflowers and thistles.
Etching Dimensions and Condition Details
Image size: 14" x 11"
Sheet size: 17" x 12 1/2"
Condition: We rate the condition as very good to fine. There is very faint time stain in the margins where a mat once was. There is also a tear in the lower margin (that looks like a cut from a matting knife) which is well away from the image and can easily be matted away.
